Jaywanti became a role model of enhancing livelihood

05-Sep-2017

Jaywanti Yaduvanshi is residing at Bordehi village of Jamai block.  She belonged to a poor family.  It was difficult for the family to survive in only 4 acres of land.  The income was very minimal.  The major family expenses were stated as children’s education, illness and treatment and remaining was spent on agriculture.  But the agriculture was not so profitable comparing to it’s investment.  Knowledge about improved agricultural practices was also lacking in the family as well as in the village.  Agriculture was depend on rain only.  Hence they were able to take a single crop in a year.  They used to take loan from the local moneylenders at the time of emergency  or to fulfill basic needs at a high interest rate.
In May 2015 Mission Sunehara Kal of ITC-IDYWC started work in Bordehi.  Regular monthly meetings were facilities in the villages and organized people under village development committee.   People’s awareness building and informing them about new techniques of agriculture was an initial step of work  of MSK which included Organic Farming, Farm Pond, Self Help Group etc.  and how to make agriculture more profitable.
The women got interested in forming Self Help Group and a group of 15 women formed “Radharani Swa Sahayata Samuh”.  They deposits Rs 50/member every month.  MSK focused its work on Agriculture development looking at the needs of the local community.  It organize agri. Trainings, orientations and regular information support to the villagers to enhance their livelihood condition. Information provided to them regarding, Improved agricultural practices, Organic farming, Amrit Pani (herbal pesticide), animal husbandry.  They made aware about the use of chemical fertilizers and reducing productivity of soil. Rain water Harvesting  and how to increase their income by taking three crops in a year including vegetable growing.
The women SHG decided to grow vegetable and earn more income. MSK provided a loan of Rs. 2000/- to each member of SHG.  Jaywanti Took a loan of Rs. 2000/- and grow vegetable. In the initial 3 months she earned Rs. 3500/- by selling the vegetable.  Next time she again grow vegetables  in 1 acre of land  and earned Rs. 20,000/-.
Jaywanti invest the said amount in digging bore well in her farm  to irrigate land. She took a loan once again from the group and cultivated and in this way she took three crops  in a year and increased annual income.
After improving her agricultural conditions Jaywanti turned to animal husbandry. She bought a buffalo and getting milk.  There is a drastic change in the living condition of Jaywanti as she realized.
She is a regular member in all meetings of the group.  Therefore she is much more aware about health, social, economical schemes of the govt. made for rural areas, women and poor. She is aware about “benefits of Hand Wash, as she learnt in the meeting from MSK.  She feels that indeed there is an improvement in the health status of her family due to health precautions. In this way through the little but joint efforts of Jaywanti and MSK there is a notable change  in the quality of Jayanti’s life.
Now Jaywanti became a Leader for ever in her village and a model for enhancing livelihood.  She encouraged other women to form or join in a group and do more for their family, village and the nation.
